Celebrating a Fantastic Season of Debating
As the debating season comes to a close, we extend a huge thank you to our dedicated coaches. Without their tireless commitment and encouragement, our students would not have had the opportunity to develop their skills, confidence, and teamwork through debating.
Our Year 7 team wrapped up their season by debating the topic “That parents should be fined if their child frequently refuses to go to school.” Under the guidance of Eryn and Maddie, the students have shown remarkable growth. A special mention goes to Joel Walding, who has truly shone this season with his progress and performance.
The Year 8s celebrated a fantastic win, successfully arguing their case on the topic “That the redevelopment of the North Adelaide Golf Course for LIV Golf is unacceptable.” Their hard work and preparation certainly paid off!
Our Year 9s put forward a strong performance, narrowly missing a win by just one point. Despite the close result, the team has demonstrated excellent improvement over the season. Congratulations to Roben, who was awarded Speaker of the Night for his outstanding effort.
The Year 10s faced the challenge of a short-prep debate, receiving their topic only 90 minutes before competing. With guidance from Grace—and a timely lesson on the subject—they delivered an exceptional debate on “That First Past the Post voting should replace Preferential Voting.” Despite their brilliant performance, they were edged out by only half a point in a very close contest.
This season has been a wonderful journey of learning and growth for all of our debating teams. We are incredibly proud of each student who took part and grateful to our coaches for inspiring and supporting them every step of the way.
